Chapter 1: P14

From Blueprints to a Lake House Full of Life

When you think about a lake house, you might envision a hot summer afternoon floating on the water, but visiting this customer's home on a crisp autumn day was nothing short of dreamy. The homeowners worked with their designer to take a 2,300 square foot house on Apple Valley lake and create a home that their family can enjoy all year round.

They purchased this 3 bed/1 bath home earlier this year and set out to completely re-design it before Memorial Day. With the help of their architect and designer, they created a functional and comfortable 5 bedroom/3 bath home that sleeps up to 21 people!

One of the first design features they decided on was the addition of this amazing Nano wall that completely opens up to create an unobstructed view of the lake. The two story living room is accented with faintly nautical touches and gorgeous distressed wood beams that add rustic warmth.

The homeowners love the versatility and classic feel of a neutral palette so they chose calming fabrics in their living room. Two Springfield chairs in a damask paisley fabric, studded with antiqued nailhead trim complement the fluffy down-filled Ellice sofa. Soft woven accent stools are perfect for extra seating and simple minimalist accents add just the right amount of texture and interest.

The home is filled with thoughtful details like this unique stairwell banister created with shiny boat cleats and natural sisal rope.

To keep the flow of the space open and cohesive, the homeowners and their designer chose consistent paint colors and finishes throughout the home. The walls are painted Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey accented by soft white trim and balanced by wide plank flooring. They kept snowy shiplap in one of the bedrooms which allows the iron bed frame to stand out. The downstairs bedrooms take advantage of every inch of space with cozy custom built-in bunk beds.

Glossy 3"x12" Masia subway tiles in Gris Claro mirror the smooth white Silestone quartz counter-top and create a clean, airy feel.

A custom made pedestal table in the adjoining dining space is wrapped by upholstered dining benches and sleek, industrial counter stools so every guest has a seat to relax.

The downstairs living room was designed to comfortably accommodate a crowd and the Colin sectional even pulls out with additional beds for guests! They chose to finish it in a soft grey fabric that's perfect for curling up and watching a movie when they weather doesn't cooperate. A natural jute rug and honey colored coffee table give the space tons of warmth.

This project was a labor of love for the family and their designer and the result is a home that is full of laughter and time spent together. A lakefront kitchen and dining area is the cherry on top of this amazing house and sets the stage for so many fun summer days to come for this family.
