Chapter 2: P12

TROVE On The Go: A Family-Friendly Take on a Bright, Tuscan Design

Home is a special place for Dixie, her husband Clark and their three active young boys. They recently moved into their home in The Oaks of Dublin and love to entertain, so it was important for them to have a home that works with their lifestyle. Their goal with Trove On The Go was to create a home that felt elegant, but was still a functional and welcoming retreat for both kids and parents.

Every design project needs a starting point and for Dixie and Clark, that was the amazing 12x15' mist blue and cream rug they chose to define their open living room. To anchor the space they chose the Oscar sectional upholstered in a kidproof crypton fabric that repels stains and creates a comfortable seating area the whole family can enjoy every day.

Dixie and Clark's home features Tuscan influenced elements from high, vaulted ceilings to exposed wood and wrought iron detailing. They wanted to respect the architecture of their home without feeling too cornered into a specific style. The striking Maple credenza greets you as you walk in and sets the tone for a home that feels classic, but with modernized touches. We absolutely love the shine that the aluminum eglomise on the doors brings to contrast the crackled cream finish.

They customized the credenza by cutting down the legs to fit exactly to the height of the sectional and we have to say, it looks like it was made for this space! Bright handmade pottery complements the fresh color palette that Dixie loves and a bundle of sunflowers gives a summery nod to rolling Tuscan fields.

The Corie cocktail table mirrors the distressed cream finish they used throughout their home to add lightness to the dark wood floors. Two of the Lindsay swivel chairs wrapped in a modern gold patterned fabric adds a contrasting element finished with bright pewter nailhead trim. Punchy, saturated accent pillows pull together the color palette of the space and bring coziness.

One of the strongest architectural elements in the room is the two story "clock tower" above the fireplace. Dixie and her designer felt that the blank white space above the hearth seemed a little bare and out of place until they found the perfect accent to draw your eye and make it feel complete and purposeful. They finished the adjacent built-in with three blown glass bottles filled with simple white willow branches which add texture and mimic the height of the clock tower.

The entire space allows this busy family to come together and enjoy time relaxing, watching movies or playing board games in a beautiful setting that works for everyone!

Six custom Sandra dining chairs encircle their table and add just the right amount of drama to the setting. The weathered grey exposed backs frame a light geometric patterned fabric to create a look that marries traditional and modern.

They took advantage of hearth area in the kitchen and created a cozy room with smaller scale furniture that wouldn't overwhelm the space.

Each element has its own unique personality, but they all work together seamlessly. The perfectly scaled Christy apartment sofa has delicate rolled arms and just enough seating space to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or entertain a friend for cocktails in the evening.

Two of the classic Luna leather swivel chairs lined with a dramatic oversized nailhead add a touch of masculinity that's offset by the fluffy shag rug. The Ronald coffee table completes this sitting area with an oval starburst design made of recycled Elm wood to bring in texture and a hint of rustic character.

The kitchen is finished with the striking Irondale swivel stools whose sleek, architectural bases juxtapose the formal, dark wood corbels supporting the counter. Dixie and her designer worked together to create custom pieces in fabrics and finishes that give them the timeless and elegant look they wanted while fitting in seamlessly with their active lifestyle.
