Chapter 2: P8

TROVE On The Go: A Historic Summer Home Gets A Fresh Update

Walking into this 115 year old home in Marble Cliff, OH, the history and character immediately shine through. Exposed wood beams and leaded windows give a nod to its previous life as a summer home long before the cozy neighborhood surrounding it existed. Nicole and her husband Jimmy began their Trove On The Go design project to find pieces to complement the classic and traditional feel of their home, while still keeping it fresh with a cool color palette and contemporary touches.

This beautiful living room was the first space they focused on with their designer. Nicole and Jimmy wanted a classic and semi-formal look, but with four children under the age of six, they knew it couldn't become a "no-go" area. To accommodate the entire family, they chose pieces that would be functional and forgiving while still giving them the style they wanted.

Two tufted Brette sofas mirror each other on either side of the fireplace which creates a space that allows easy conversation. They lit the room with the gorgeous Ava blown glass chandelier and Walthall wall sconces which Nicole says "absolutely transformed the space". Each sconce is finished with a silver leaf that reflects a warm glow as the light sprays in all directions.

Two custom Reeva upholstered chairs bring lightness to the living room and add a touch of drama with their high, sculptural backs. They chose to complete the setting with a classically patterned wool rug and the Boston coffee table which brings in a natural grounding element.

The living room flows into an open office space with equally beautiful architectural detailing. They adorned either side of the office entry with pieces that flow and add function and storage. The Matana accent chest's whitewashed drawers are accented with sleek brass pulls and aluminum sheet detailing for contrast against the more traditional pieces in the space.

The opposite corner is made cozy with a single Dylan accent chair to create a nook that's not only pretty, but also perfect for extra seating or a quiet cup of coffee. Its washed indigo fabric pulls in the tones throughout the living room and antiqued ivory nailhead adds a finishing touch.

The office juxtaposes styles with a grandly scaled executive desk and chairs upholstered in a light, Belgian linen for an unexpected pairing. Hand-hammered nailhead detailing trims the Limburg chairs' rolled arms and tailored backs.

Industrial details like the iron base on this factory console table bring a unique, modern touch to this home. It's topped with two of the Ellington table lamps whose sea salt swirled glass bases draw your eye immediately. The mixed finishes throughout this open space add depth and dimension, from the chestnut brown of the exposed ceiling beams to the reclaimed elm of the coffee table and console.

Jimmy is a third generation Vice President of WK Music & Vending and their home has some beautiful nostalgic pieces that carry lots of meaning for their family. This 1956 jukebox was a gift from Jimmy's parents when they moved into their new home and they proudly play their favorite records on it when they entertain.

Their extensive music collection was handed down by Jimmy's parents throughout the years and we absolutely love how they've chosen to display it on this industrial iron cart. This piece was actually their first Trove purchase about five years ago and we're so happy to say that they've been customers ever since!

Oval back exposed frame chairs flank each side of a rustic trestle table in this elegant dining room. A crystal chandelier sparkles at the center of the space to highlight the natural linen upholstery and a lightly patterned area rug. This room is a perfect example of how Nicole and Jimmy worked with their designer to find pieces that would give them the classic and tailored look they wanted while still being functional for their family.

We absolutely loved being able to take a tour of this beautiful home and learn more about the design process.
